Critical Health Care Where It's Needed Most

As a core component of our medical mission trips, the Women's Health Program delivers specialized care to women who otherwise have limited or no access to these life-saving services. In rural Honduras, preventable conditions often go untreated simply due to a lack of resources, equipment, and screening opportunities.

With approximately half of the Honduran population living in rural areas, access to care is a major limiting factor. While women's health cytology clinics exist in many major cities, they are typically private and unaffordable for the vast majority of women living in poverty. As a result, the most recent estimates suggest that only about 1 in 4 women in Honduras receive recommended screenings for cervical cancer.

Screenings & LEEP Procedures

During our short-term mission clinics, our medical volunteers focus heavily on preventative health. A cornerstone of this initiative is providing comprehensive cervical cancer screenings, as cervical and breast cancer alone account for about one quarter of all cancer deaths in Honduran women.

Since we began this program in June of 2019, we have screened hundreds of women and performed over a dozen LEEP procedures to remove potential cancers. For patients requiring immediate intervention, our trained medical teams are equipped to perform this LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) on-site. By identifying and treating pre-cancerous cells early, we are actively preventing cervical cancer—one of the most common cancer killers of women in Honduras—and saving the lives of mothers, daughters, and sisters in the communities we serve. In the future, we hope to expand this program to include increased breast cancer screenings and bring mammography to the general public.

Our Urgent Needs

To continue making this program successful, we rely on generous supporters. Our ongoing needs include:

  • Funding for necessary medications, such as prenatal vitamins and the 6 months of birth control required for women recovering from a LEEP procedure.
  • Approximately $2,000 to construct portable privacy rooms for the screening exams and procedures, as well as updated equipment such as a colposcope and suction machine.
  • Additional medical providers who are trained in cervical exams and LEEP procedures.

Dignity, Compassion, and Prayer

We believe that every patient deserves to be treated with profound dignity and the love of Jesus Christ. Our Women's Health clinic is designed to provide a safe, private, and compassionate environment. Here, women receive not only the specialized medical attention they urgently need, but also individual prayer and emotional support from our ministry team.
